Leeds United striker Luciano Becchio is closing in on a return to first team football.

Last seasons 20 goal leading goalscorer hasn`t featured since suffering a hamstring injury in the draw with Watford in April that forced him to miss the remainder of the season.

Becchio returned for pre season training but suffered a reoccurrence of the injury that forced him into minor surgery.

The Argentinian is now back in full training, although manager Simon Grayson is still reluctant to put a date on his return. Speaking on the official website, Grayson said, ‘He’s been out a long time so I’m not going to build everyone’s hopes up that he is going to be in the squad, but he is progressing nicely.
‘Luciano is obviously going to be short of match fitness but we will see where we are. He isn’t too far away which is a real plus for everybody.’

The news is good news for Leeds who suffered a dismal closing day in the transfer window, failing to strengthen their squad and losing last season`s player of the year Max Gradel to St Etienne.

Leeds are currently enjoying the international break with the rest of the championship before returning to action with an home game against Crystal Palace on September 10th.
