Leeds United strike duo Jermaine Beckford and Luciano Becchio are on the verge of becoming the first Leeds United strike partnership to score 50 goals between them in a season since 1969/70.

Both Beckford and Becchio scored on Saturday against Tranmere Rovers to take their tally to 49 goals between them this season.

The last pair to do it was Allan Clarke and Mick Jones who scored 52 goals between them in the 1969/70 season.

With two League games and a possible three play off matches this season the pair are likely to break the magic 50 mark.

What`s more incredible is the fact that the pair cost Leeds just £45,000 in total.

Beckford joined from Wealdstone United in 2006 for £45,000 and has already scored 52 goals for the club in just 84 appearances.
Leeds are quite fortunate to still have the prolific goalscorer, Scunthorpe United almost signed the player in the summer of 2008 after he`d enjoyed helping the Irons to promotion from League One the previous season.
It was only the fact that Scunthorpe didn`t match the asking price that Beckford stayed with Leeds.

Luciano Becchio has been a revelation since originally joining Leeds on trial in the summer of 2008, after impressing Gary McAllister during pre season he signed for Leeds on a three year deal on a free transfer.

Becchio started his career at Boca Juniors and also had a spell at Barcelona before making his name in the Spanish Third Division with Merida scoring 22 goals in just 38 appearances.

Both players are still only 25 years old and with a great crop of youngsters including Fabian Delph and Jon Howson the future looks promising for Leeds United.
