Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says the club will not rush into any transfers over the summer with Neil Warnock looking to rebuild the squad for a push at promotion next season.
Warnock has stated that he wants to move quickly in the transfer market when the season closes after this weekend`s final game of the season against Leicester City but Bates says they must not rush into any new signings.
Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Bates said, “It is not a question of moving quickly, it is more a question of moving steadily and precisely.
“What we don`t want is anymore frantic or panic signings and bringing in players who are not good enough.”
Warnock is expecting to name his retained and released list early next week with a number of players at the club out of contract.
Mikael Forssell, Danny Webber, Michael Brown, Maik Taylor and Alex Bruce are all out of contract in the summer whilst youngster Aidy White, who has been offered a new deal by the club, is also out of contract.
Warnock is hoping to know one-way or the other this week whether White, who has been linked with a move to Newcastle United this week, will be staying at Elland Road.
The Leeds boss is also reported to be closing in on his first two signings of the summer, with defender Jason Pearce from Portsmouth and midfielder Paul Green from Derby County being strongly linked with a move to Elland Road.
Bates has also admitted that whilst the club would like to bring in players from the Premiership, wages are likely to be the major obstacle. “We would like to sign a few Premiership players but the gap between the wages is so ridiculous and the players will not take a pay cut to drop down to the championship,” added Bates.
