Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says the club are serious about mounting a promotion push next season despite their lack of activity in the transfer market so far this summer.

Fans have started to get more and more restless as a lack of players coming into the club as had them questioning the clubs ambitions.

Bates insists that the club are in serious discussions with a number of players, having already missed out on a few who decided to join clubs in the Premier League.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Bates said, ‘I can confirm we are in serious discussions with a number of players. We are looking to sign four players.

‘There are three that we failed to get because they signed for Premier League clubs, but that shows the quality we are trying to get it, and you can’t blame the players.”

Bates is also adamant that the club will not be selling their star players unless the clubs interested come in with a ridiculous offer.

Clubs continue to be linked with players like Max Gradel and Robert Snodgrass but Bates wants these players to help get the club back into the top flight of English football. ‘I can assure fans that we have no intentions of selling our top players unless the offer is so ridiculous that it will enable Simon to strengthen his team in other ways.
‘Our aim this year is to get in the Premier League and not be a breeding ground for others,’ he continued.

Leeds have so far signed goalkeeper Paul Rachubka after his release from Blackpool, whilst regulars in the first team last season, Kasper Schmeichel, Neil Kilkenny and Bradley Johnson have all moved on.
