Leeds chairman Ken Bates says getting defender Richard Naylor to Elland Road on a permanent deal was difficult.

The Whites finally secured Naylor`s signature with less than an hour left of the transfer window after struggling to get an answer from Naylor`s club Ipswich Town throughout the day, speaking on the official website Bates said: ‘It’s been very difficult. We couldn’t get Ipswich to make their mind up. They were a little difficult and the deal was resolved after four o’clock. We’re very pleased to have him because he’s strong in defence and a good leader as well.’

Leeds born Naylor who has been at Leeds on loan since mid January has already played four games for the club with three of those has captain.

Naylor a Leeds fan since his childhood scored his first goal for Leeds in last weeks 2-0 home victory against Southend United.

The 31 year old has spent his whole career at Portman Road apart from a few small loan spells away spanning almost 15 years, he comes to Leeds on a free transfer and has signed a deal till the summer of 2011.
