Leeds United chairman Ken Bates has criticised the fans who were demonstrating on Saturday before the game with Middlesbrough at the weekend.

Bates described the fans as mostly kids and they don`t have a clue what they are shouting about.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio , Bates said, “I felt sorry for them. When you look at the evidence afterwards because we have it all on CCTV footage and various photographs, most of them are kids and they don`t know what they are shouting about.
“The few people I spoke to, hadn`t got a coherent complaint, there only complaint was we haven`t bought any players and that`s the managers decision and it`s down to him.”

Bates was also quick to reiterate that the player budget is not being sacrificed at the expense of redevelopment of the East Stand. “For the final time, the work we are doing in the East Stand, which is for the good long term future of the club as no bearing on buying or selling players and people need to remember there as been three players we could have sold over the summer for a lot of money and we refused,” he continued.

Bates also feels that the fans are not helping the players on the pitch with their continued chanting against him during the games, “These so called fans, instead of shouting their mouths off, they should be shouting and supporting the players and being the extra man on the pitch,” blasted Bates.

Bates also went on to say that the fans demonstrations were like water of a ducks back to him.

The fans frustration against the clubs chairman has not been helped by the clubs worst start to a season since 1980/81 when they also lost their opening two games.
