Leeds United target Rodolph Austin has given an exclusive interview to BBC Radio Leeds reporter Adam Pope and he says that former Leeds favourite Eirik Bakke has been a big influence on his career and told him what a fantastic club Leeds is.

Austin has been linked with a move to Elland Road from Norwegian side SK Brann and Leeds have already had a bid for the midfielder turned down by Brann.

The Jamaican international speaking to Radio Leeds said, “Leeds have made an offer and I am waiting to see what the outcome of it is.

Former Leeds favourite Eirik Bakke played with Austin at Brann and Austin says he has had a big influence on his career and he has told him all about Leeds United. “It is a big club and they have a big history. They have done well over the years and are trying to get back into the Premier League.

“It is a good club to go to and they can play in front of 37,000 fans. It is a good step for my career at this moment.

“Eirik is a fantastic man. I have played with him at Brann, he is always friendly and he has looked after me at Brann.

“He is the one who has helped me and he has encouraged me and told me Leeds is a fantastic club and I thank him for his advice,”
added Austin.

The 27 year old is out of contract in December, having joined Brann in 2008 in a deal worth around £1 million after Premier League side Stoke City failed to obtain a work permit for the player.

Austin is now a regular in the Jamaican national side and will have played the percentage of games required for his nation to obtain a work permit.

He is still keen to make the move to England and more importantly Leeds United. Austin continued, “I am not getting any younger and if I can come to Leeds and do my best, and hopefully I can help the team.”

Austin already knows all about Leeds manager Neil Warnock having enjoyed a trial with him at Queens Park Rangers in January 2011. Warnock was keen to sign Austin back then but was put off by Brann`s asking price of a reported £2 million. Austin is keen to work with Warnock and admits he is the sort of manager he likes. “He is a fantastic manager. I think he is humble and very simple and he is the sort of manager I would like to play for,” added Austin.

Leeds have already had a reported bid of around £200,000 rejected by Brann but are expected to be in talks with Brann once again this week to thrash out a deal to bring him to Elland Road
