Both Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman started for the Whites’ u23 side last night as they continue to try and push for a first-team place.

The squad might be smaller than most but it seems clear that we have got great quality in the side that is performing consistently.

Indeed, you’d have thought when the pair arrived in the summer that both would have featured regularly already but neither really have.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell has kept the number 1 spot ahead of Blackman whilst Baker has seen our midfielders in resurgent form.

Mateusz Klich and Kalvin Phillips have been excellent whilst that bit further forwards Pablo Hernandez, Samuel Saiz and Jack Harrison have all shone.

It seems, then, that both will have to bide their time at the club as we head into this week’s game with Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.

Certainly, it does at least show we have good depth.
