Leeds Word On The Tweet

‘Literally the beast’ – These Leeds fans react to 6ft star’s impressive stat

Pablo Hernandez and Mateusz Klich were among the best players in the Championship last season for successful passes made in the final third of the pitch, and Leeds will need the duo on form again in the upcoming campaign if United are to finally secure promotion back into the Premier League.

Helder Costa’s arrival from Wolverhampton Wanderers will take some of the creative burden from the Spaniard and Polish international’s shoulders, but fans have not been quick to forget how vital Hernandez and Klich were last season.

Some Leeds supporters have been reacting on social media lately to an impressive stat reflecting the Whites duo’s efforts last term, after LUFC Data shared that Hernandez led the league by the close of the campaign with 835 completed efforts in the attacking third.

The 34-year-old’s tally was 122 higher than second-placed Romaine Sawyers, and a further 47 more than 6ft Klich achieved, with the 19-cap midfielder penning 666 during his 48 outings at the core of Marcelo Bielsa’s midfield.

While some of the replies to LUFC Data’s tweet focused on praising Klich and Hernandez, others looked to the other men on the list and speculated whether a move to sign them could boost our promotion hopes.

Namely, Brentford’s Sawyers was a player of interest among the Elland Road faithful members discussing potential additions.

Bielsa is also believed to be a fan of the Birmingham-born creator, as he sees the 27-year-old as a midfielder capable of stepping straight into his plans and making a difference to our results.

The Bees are not proving to be willing to strike a discounted deal over their 26-cap Saint Kitts and Nevis international captain, however, having rejected bids of £1.5m and £2million from Celtic and a £2.2m approach from West Bromwich Albion already this summer.

Instead, Thomas Frank’s Griffin Park natives are said to value Sawyers at more than £3million after he entered the final year of his contract on July 1, but are in talks with West Brom over a potential deal.

Aston Villa have also been credited with an interest in Sawyers in the past.

Here’s how these Leeds fans reacted when LUFC Data reflected on last season’s top passers in the final third…
