Some Leeds players are still shell-shocked with the Cardiff play-off result, but Eddie Lewis says he has got over his hangover.

The woeful performance against Watford in last month’s Championship promotion decider is still fresh in the mind of the Leeds fans. But the 32-year-old does not intend giving Leeds another thought until he returns for pre-season training in the middle of next month.

Lewis: ‘I probably had a far easier time getting over that defeat than anyone else. I have been able to put myself into an entirely separate environment and focus on something completely different.

‘For a lot of the guys, who just went onto their break and weren’t necessarily thinking about anything else, it must have been hard.

‘The first 24 hours were a real shock.

‘Nothing sinks in apart from frustration and disappointment. For three or four days afterwards, the ‘what ifs’ kept popping up in my head. I went over and over the game wondering if there was anything we could have done differently.

‘But once I got back to the United States there were so many other things to think about, the Cardiff game just got put onto the back burner.

‘I have always viewed the two situations separately anyway. When I was with Leeds, I knew I had a job to do for them, so I didn’t think about the World Cup. Now I am here, the same situation applies in reverse.’
