September already? Just where did the summer go? Leeds face Luton in another battle of the relegated.

Vital Quotes:

League One Manager of the Month (not that he likes it) Dennis Wise is looking forward to the game, and believes that whilst the man he replaced in Kevin Blackwell will be relishing the prospect of facing his old club, that Wisey will be focused purely on the match ahead.

The Leeds boss spoke to leedsunited.com: ‘It’s a very good game,’ said Wisey.

‘I’m sure Mr Blackwell, Mr Carver and Mr Ellis will be paying more attention to this than some of the others.

‘They will want to shove it down our throats and beat us, but this isn’t about Blackwell and being the ex-manager it’s about Leeds United v Luton Town and us getting three points.

Blackwell himself believes he is returning to Elland Road for the first time since his sacking in 2006 with nothing to prove. Speaking to his own clubs official website he said: ‘I would be liar if I said this wasn’t a fixture that didn’t interest me,’ Blackwell told the club’s website.

‘Going back to one of your old clubs is tinged with either sadness or happiness, and I have a bit of both.

‘I don’t think I have anything to prove, I think the record shows that I am about the fourth or fifth best manager in Leeds’ history and my points ratio puts me in the the top four managers in their history.’

Top four managers in our history? I didn’t think our history was that bad?!

Lovely Leeds Team News:

Leeds have lost Tore-Andre Flo to injury, which may see the club attempt to bring in a striker on a short term deal with Leon Constantine still out for some time yet.

‘Mr Versatile’ Andy Hughes may make a return having missed the last two matches with a groin injury.

It is likely that new signing Alan Martin will take up his soon-to-be usual seat on the bench.

Player to watch: Casper Ankergren

Vital Leeds goes for a slightly less obvious choice this week.

With competition now arriving in the form of highly-rated youngster Alan Martin, Ankergren may need to step things up a gear after some shaky moments (albeit small ones) at Fratton Park.

Lacklustre Luton Team News:

Luton have managed to secure the services of a highly rated Pole (as in someone from Poland) in Jaroslaw Fojut (good job I haven’t had a drink yet, that was hard enough to type as it is.) The youth international may make a competitive debut against Leeds.

Theres a fight for the #1 shirt at Luton (not literally) between David Forde and the returning Dean Brill.

Defender Richard Jackson picked up a groin strain in Luton’s impressive 3-0 victory against Sunderland. As of yet it has not been reported if Luton have a good looking physio or not.

Player to watch: Paul Furlong

Scored two against what is a much improved (but a long way to go yet Roy!) Sunderland side.

The former England C, yes C international seems to now be enjoying himself and will be one that the Leeds United defence will need to keep an eye on.

Match Facts & Stats

Firstly, I’d be interested to know if people reading these previews are happy finding out some useless facts, or whether you’d rather have some match facts. Let me know by way of an e-mail to leeds@vitalfootball.co.uk.

Anyway, on with the show:

  • Did you know that there is a road in Luton named after Hilda Hewlett, who is believed to be the first ever woman to earn a pilots licence in the United Kingdom?

  • Luton was apparently featured in an episode of Space 1999 as a world of hostile living plants. Well, it was a planet called Luton, not the town!

  • Luton is the birthplace of Domino’s pizza in the United Kingdom. The first UK store for the American based takeaway chain opened in the town in 1985.
  • Ref Watch:

The referee for the match is none other than Mr C Oliver.

In his 37 games officiated last year, Mr Oliver racked up an impressive 82 yellow and 3 red cards.

The man must obviously love it when Christmas comes!

    Match Prediction:

2-1 seems to be doing the business for us at Vital Leeds, having been the correctly predicted scoreline for the last two matches.

2-1 Leeds please, as we go marching on!

    Next Fixtures:

After dispatching Luton Town, Leeds remain at Elland Road for a home match against Hartlepool.
