Leeds United host Barnsley in the Carabao cup second round on Wednesday, August 24th.

In what will be a near sell-out Elland Road, Leeds coach Jesse Marsch is sure to ring the changes to his side. The Whites have started the season brightly with a draw against Southampton sandwiched between two great wins against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea, and will be going into this game against League 1 Barnsley full of confidence.

Barnsley sit in 16th place in the table having played five games this season, winning two and losing three. However, Michael Duff’s side are not to be underestimated after beating Championship side Middlesbrough in the previous round and won’t want to make too many changes to his side. He may opt to freshen up the side that lost 3-0 at home to Wycombe Wanderers last weekend with Matthew Wolfe and William Hondermarck looking for a starting place in The Tykes Midfield. Callum Styles may not be risked as speculation surrounds his future at the club.

The last time these sides met was in the Championship, Elland Road, July 16, 2020, Leeds won 1-0.

For Leeds, Liam Cooper and Patrick Bamford are both vying for a return to action after injury although may be used as bench options as coach Jesse Marsch will want to ease them both back into action. The substitutes for the game against Chelsea could all be moved into the starting line-up. Adam Forshaw, Mateusz Klich, Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood and Luis Sinisterra could all be handed starts.

Likely line-ups: Leeds – Klaesson, Drameh, Koch, Struijk, Hjelde, Forshaw, Klich, Summerville, Greenwood, Sinisterra, Gelhardt.

Barnsley – Collins, Andersen, McCarthy, Kitching, Williams, Wolfe, Hondermarck, Benson, Odour, Cole, Norwood.

Head to Head – Leeds (27) Draw (17) Barnsley (20)

Kick Off – 19:45, Elland Road.
