Leeds United’s midfielder/defender Peter Sweeney has spoken of his disappointment at his teams playoff defeat, but reflects on a remarkable year.

Speaking on his very own Icon’s page, the former Stoke City player said:

“When the season ends you finally get the chance to look back at what’s gone on over the campaign. When you’re in the thick of it there’s so much going on that you really don’t get much of a chance to stop and think.

“For Leeds not to get promoted was a big disappointment, but there have been plenty of highlights. For a start, we managed to turn over a 15-point deficit. Instead of just avoiding relegation we made it into the play-offs.

“Two of our players in particular impressed me over the course of the season, both of them strikers. Jermaine Beckford’s 20 goals this season have been crucial in getting us into the play-offs. He’s had a great year.

“From March he was joined up front by Dougie Freedman, who was on loan from Palace. Dougie’s made a big difference.”
