Another Sunday, another brilliant piece by Vital Leeds United member dazza71 as he rounds up the weeks action at Elland Road.
Well, its been quite a quiet week by Elland Road standards. Does this mean the club are finally finding a bit of stability?
Sunday:
After the fantastic result against Southend in front of the highest gate in the Football League on Saturday, Dennis Wise reflects on the game and evaluates the goals for the season.
He said: ‘The first target must be to reach 70 points (in our case 55 points and avoid relegation) we can then take it from there and see how far we can go.’
Monday:
Eddie Lewis finally leaves the club and joins Premiership Derby County. Eddie was one of the few shining lights last season and at 33 years of age I cannot blame him for probably having one last crack at the Premiership.
Leeds are quick to replace him and confirm the loan signing of highly experienced left back Jamie Clapham from Wolves.
Tuesday:
Any chance we get of talking about putting one over our old rivals needs to be done. The under 18’s thump Man United 3-0 away from home with goals from Stefan Connor, Tom Lees and Fabian Delph doing the damage. It looks like the youth system is still churning out the talent.
Dennis Wise is refusing to get carried away even though its Leeds best start to a season since 2000/2001. Wisey said: ‘The hard works only just begun and the sooner we can get into plus points the better.’
Wednesday:
Jamie Clapham, in his first interview with the club says he can’t wait for the challenge at Leeds United and is looking forward to playing in front of the great support that follows Leeds.
England lose 2-1 in a friendly at Wembley against Germany, ex-Leeds keeper Paul Robinson is once again in the spotlight having been at fault for Germany’s first goal.
Thursday:
Dennis Wise confirms interest in Hibernian defender Rob Jones and says club have already had one bid turned down for the player.
Wise is also reported to be after Shaun Barker from Blackpool and Steve Davies from Tranmere.
Just one thing Dennis, don’t forget to get a keeper!
The manager is looking forward to weekend game at Forest and says: ‘If Leeds come away with three points it will put the fear into all the other teams in this division.’
Friday:
Wise gets the old mind games going ahead of the game at Forest by saying: ‘The pressure is well and truly on Forest and manager Colin Calderwood to get a result tomorrow.’
Leeds are asking fans to book tickets early for next Saturday’s game v Luton Town at Elland Road.
After last weeks game and queue’s snaking around the back of the Don Revie stand causing the kick off to be delayed by fifteen minutes they’d prefer want people to book in advance.
Saturday:
Leeds are being entertained by Nottingham Forest in an early kick off at the City ground, the games been talked about as the match between the fallen giants since the fixtures came out.
Leeds take an half time lead after a cracking strike from Tresor Kandol just past the quarter hour mark.
Forest equalise early in the second half through Kris Commons but Leeds are not going to be denied.
Jermaine Beckford scores an 89th minute winner to continue Leeds 100% start to the season. We have now scored five goals in the last five minutes of the games in our first three League games.
All successful teams seem able to do this, to me its shows an hunger, desire and excellent fitness to keep battling for the full ninety minutes.
The minus total now stands at six and we are only seven points from safety.
I would definitely reiterate what the club have said about getting tickets early for the Luton game, I expect a crowd close to the 30,000 mark next Saturday.
Here’s looking forward to Pompey in the cup in midweek and then the proper business of Luton.
