Leeds United have been boosted by the return to full fitness of Pontus Jansson ahead of the clash with Barnsley this weekend.

Jansson is set to train on Friday after the Swedish international defender was forced to miss the trip to Aston Villa last week after suffering a concussion in the previous game at Preston North End.

Leeds head coach Paul Heckingbottom will have to decide whether to recall Jansson or stick with youngster Paudie O’Connor and Matthew Pennington. Youngster O’Connor has impressed in his three appearances for Leeds whilst Pennington returned from injury at Villa Park last week.

Both Liam Cooper and Adam Forshaw have returned to training this week but they are unlikely to feature on Saturday.

Gaetano Berardi continues to serve his five-match suspension for his third sending off this season in Leeds last home game against Sunderland.

Luke Ayling, Laurens De Bock, Conor Shaughnessy and Tyler Roberts all remain on the sidelines through injury.

Barnsley are sweating on the fitness of Adam Jackson and Brad Potts after the pair picked up knocks in last weekend’s draw with Bolton Wanderers although manager Jose Morais expects the pair to be fit in time for the trip to Elland Road.

Defender Matt Mills is closing in on a return to first team action for Barnsley and he could be in contention for this clash.

Forward Mamadou Thiam could also return after missing the last four games through injury.

Joe Williams has returned to Everton following his injury against Bristol City at the end of last month and he is not expected to return to Oakwell before the end of the season.

Goalkeeper Nick Townsend remains sidelined through injury.
