Report: Leeds United handed fresh takeover development with QSI no longer the front-runners

|

Leeds United could be hot property with the club now back in the big time after a 16-year absence and emerging reports have linked them with a takeover this summer.

According to 90min, the San Francisco 49ers ownership are now the front-runners to land the Yorkshire giants and they could take charge in time for their Premier League bow.

Who will be Leeds United owner for their first season back in the PL?

It’s claimed that the Americans are now keen to push through a full takeover having originally claimed 10% of the club from chairman Andrea Radrizzani in May 2018.

For the past year, there have been murmurs that Qatar Sports Investment were leading the talks, but the Italian businessman confirmed to reporters that there has been no deal made despite him being open to their interest.

The report also suggests that he could be open to selling his 90% stake to the 49ers with the Whites ready to take the next step up following promotion.

It still remains to be seen whether this could ring true as Radrizzani flew out to Europe to conduct some transfer business late on Sunday evening.

Given that the west Yorkshire outfit have lost around £30m-£40m during the pandemic in the United Kingdom, some further investment to supplement the wealth of riches picked up for winning the division certainly wouldn’t go amiss.

Radrizzani, Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa will just have to ensure they do not follow the fates of Fulham and Aston Villa in recent seasons – spending wildly hasn’t always paid off.
