Leeds United are your 2019/20 champions and after an emotional 16 years away from the top-flight, the Yorkshire giants will be back in the big-time once more.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were confirmed as the winners for the Championship season on Friday after West Brom were defeated by Huddersfield Town.

And now with just one game left to play this campaign, plans for next year can finally be put in motion, but what sort of targets will the club be looking at? Who could they sign?

These are questions some rather excited Whites supporters asked Phil Hay in a recent Q&A on The Athletic, and one name popped up frequently – Brentford sensation Said Benrahma.

Would you like to see Leeds sign Said Benrahma?

Absolutely!

Hay offered up two responses, he said:

“Like loads of clubs, they naturally like Benrahma. If Brentford stay down then I wouldn’t rule that one out. It can be a good strategy for promoted clubs. Maupay has been good for Brighton, for example.”

“Every time I speak to people I hear them talk about the best players in the Championship. I suspect Leeds would love to have a dabble with Benrahma if Brentford don’t go up.”

The 24-year-old has arguably been the player of the season across the board in the second-tier having provided 17 goals and nine assists in 42 appearances, via Transfermarkt.

Primarily a left-winger, Benrahma can also play on the other side as well as through the middle. He’d be an interesting proposition under a manager like Bielsa, who has undoubtedly improved the fortunes of similar players such as Jack Harrison and Helder Costa.

In 1967, goalkeeper Gary Sprake unfortunately gifted Liverpool a goal as he threw the ball into his own net - which defender was he actually aiming for?

Hay claims that Leeds “would love” to try and sign the Frenchman but it could all depend on whether or not the Bees go up with the champions, which right now remains to be seen as there are plenty of teams in the playoff and automatic hunt.

United will need strength in depth in the Premier League and signing the talented wide man would certainly bolster their armoury tenfold.
