Leeds United are back in the Premier League after a 16-year absence, and now that the title has been confirmed, plans for next season can be put firmly in place.

The likes of Fulham, Norwich City and Aston Villa have shown that a transition into the top-flight isn’t a smooth process and that ultimately comes down to recruitment – ala Sheffield United.

Does Kiko Casilla need to be sold this summer?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

In a recent Q&A on The Athletic, the ever-reliable Phil Hay was asked about their potential transfer plans, alluding to the goalkeeper position amongst other spots.

And he offered up the following response

“[Emi] Martinez is in the frame at Arsenal and as it stands, Leeds are still to give any indication about what they’ll do with Casilla. But it won’t surprise me at all if they go. Angus Gunn was a name mentioned to me earlier. Leeds were very keen on him in Bielsa’s first summer (he went to Southampton). We’ll see.”

So, Hay claims that he wouldn’t be surprised to see Kiko Casilla offloaded this summer despite the 33-year-old surprisingly starting yesterday and whilst Emi Martinez‘s emergence at Arsenal means a swoop for him is unlikely, one for another one-time target in Angus Gunn could be plausible.

The 24-year-old joined Southampton from Manchester City in the summer of 2018 for £13.5m and Marcelo Bielsa did have interest in him before the move.

Who scored our first goal of the season?

He started the season as first-choice on the south coast but hasn’t featured for the Saints in the Premier League since the 9-0 drubbing by Leicester City in October.

It remains to be seen if he’s in Ralph Hassenhuttl’s first-team plans, but the thought of regular game-time at Elland Road would be a lucrative opportunity for him, no doubt.
