The Athletic’s Phil Hay has delivered a fresh update to Leeds supporters on Twitter this afternoon.

Today is the deadline for teams to extend their out-of-contract players to the season’s end, but that doesn’t appear to be the case for loan players with the west Yorkshire side believing that decision can be made for another week.

Should Leeds extend JKA's loan?

No!

No!

Yes!

Yes!

Jean-Kevin Augustin’s Elland Road career has hardly gotten started and Hay believes it would be a surprise to see him remain past the deadline.

In response to one fan, he said:

Augustin is currently on loan from RB Leipzig but has only been able to feature three times from the bench, playing a total of 48 minutes. Recently, the striker suffered another injury setback and could miss out on the remainder of the campaign – certainly if Leeds do decide to send him back next week.

The Whites are obligated to buy the 23-year-old for €21m (£19m) should they manage to clinch promotion, but it is unknown if this extension situation affects matters.

As Hay eludes to, it would be a surprise to extend the loan given that he’s not fit but the player still remains at Thorp Arch as of right now.
