Leeds tipped to make eight-figure swoop for “really powerful” striker this summer

|

Leeds United could well reignite their interest in reported January target Che Adams this summer – and he’s set to be available at a cut-rate.

Speaking to Football Insider this week, former Whites frontman Noel Whelan hinted that the west Yorkshire outfit could be able to prise the 23-year-old away from Southampton with them facing struggles financially.

He said:

“He has not had too many opportunities at Southampton.

“Before we stopped playing he was getting assists and Hassenhuttl was actually seeing a player that was adding something to Southampton. They were looking after their own interests in January.

“I do not think there will be any imminent move but Leeds will have that one in mind, it is an option.

“They know he is available now and at a cheaper price. Everyone’s value has gone down so it might work out better for Leeds in the long-run.”

Adams is a player that Whites director of football Victor Orta came close to landing a few months ago but Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl pulled the plug on the deal.

It’s also been revealed by Football Insider that he could be available for just £10m this summer, which Whelan makes reference to.

Should we gain promotion this season, then we are obligated to pay £18m for Jean-Kevin Augustin, meaning Marcelo Bielsa has two strikers to call upon – Patrick Bamford included.

So, on the face of it, this move wouldn’t seem like the wisest decision. However, there’s a lot the former Birmingham City marksman can offer.

Should Leeds go back in for Che Adams this summer?

Absolutely!

Absolutely!

No thanks!

No thanks!

Adams possesses attributes that neither Leeds striker has in their locker. He was once dubbed as “really powerful” with an “abundance of pace” by his old Ilkeston boss Kevin Wilson.

The 23-year-old has struggled to adapt to Premier League football since his summer move, failing to score in 27 appearances in all competitions, but it was only last season that he thrived in the Midlands when deployed next to a target man.

If anyone can bring those 22 goals out again, it’s Bielsa.
