Luke Ayling might have been missing for most of this season but there can be no doubt that he is still one of the more committed members of the squad.

What that says about some of the other lads, I’m not sure, but at least we do still possess some players with a bit of character and pride.

That said, then, it should perhaps be no surprise to see that the right-back was one of the men to express his delight at Pablo Hernandez signing a new contract with the club:

Ayling is right, too, Pablo is the magic man, but in many ways the defender is just as important and it’ll be great to see him back on the pitch as soon as possible.

The Verdict

I’m all for this kind of thing.

If Pablo had left this summer it would have sent a message to the players saying we’re willing to let our best men go.

Instead, we’ve signed him up and the positive impact it’s had is only underlined by Luke’s tweet.
