Leeds Word On The Tweet

Leeds star linked with summer move, many fans react: ‘Like Brentford bidding for Bale’

Word has got around on Twitter that Southampton are reportedly looking at Kalvin Phillips ahead of a potential summer raid, and many Whites fans have been having their say on the rumour.

The speculation began in The Sun on Sunday (April 14, p61), and suggested the south coast natives will look to buy our midfield anchor, but only if we fail to secure Premier League football.

Another year in the Championship, though, would see a £20million bid lodged for the 5ft 8in star, who has featured in 38 of our 42 league games this season.

We are said to be determined to hold onto Phillips, no matter what division we may find ourselves preparing for, and the deal will be off the table if we secure top-flight football for our centenary campaign.

Southampton making a move for Phillips, however, is a strange motion to ponder, as Ralph Hasenhuttl already has a plethora of central options to pick from at St Mary’s.

The Saints have also never spent more than £20million on a single player, with their current record purchase Guido Carrillo, who set them back £19m, and the January 2018 signing proved disastrous to the point he is currently on loan with CD Leganes.

Hopefully we can avoid the speculation growing before the season ends, and finish the campaign by securing top-flight football, but for now, this is what’s being said on the rumours…
