Leeds made six changes from the weekend game, for the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy second round clash at Elland Road with Darlington

Tresor Kandol and Aiden White got their first starts of the season and there was also recalls for Michalik, Robinson and Prutton.

Davide Somma got a place on the bench alongside young keeper Jones.

Leeds dominated the early exchanges with Kandol going close on three occasions.

Robinson opened the scoring for Leeds when his free kick took a slight deflection on its way into the net.

Within minutes, Kandol had doubled the lead after a good through ball from Kilkenny.

After looking comfortable for almost the whole of the first half the visitors got a life line on the stroke of half time when substitute Convery scored from close range.

Enoch Showunmi replaced Tresor Kandol at half time in the Leeds attack.

Leeds looked to regain their two goal advantage in the early exchanges of the second half, Richard Naylor twice going close.

Darlington gave Leeds a scare just past the hour when Convery who scored the first missed a simple chance at the far post.

Davide Somma replaced Mike Grella with twenty minutes remaining to make his first team debut for the club.

The visitors were still very much in the tie and Kevin Gall was next to go close when he shot wide.

Somma`s debut didn`t last long when he suffered a hamstring injury, with Somma leaving the pitch it reduced Leeds to ten men for the final five minutes having already used their three substitutes.

Leeds almost conceded a penalty kick in the closing minutes when Bromby handled in the area but it went unseen from the officials.

The sides were ten against ten in the final seconds of the game when goalkeeper Liversedge was sent off for bringing down Showunmi on the edge of the area.

A much changed Leeds side held on and booked their place in the next round of the competition.
