As we approach the start of the new season, many players’ contracts will expire at their respective clubs, allowing potential suitors to sign them for free.  One such player that Leeds should consider signing is Robert Huth.

Robert Huth has been released from Leicester City following the expiration of his contract, and while Middlesbrough are considered favourites for his signature, Leeds United should contemplate challenging Boro for the German’s signature.

Despite being thwarted by several injuries this season, the German still has much to offer, and he would be an excellent coup for the Whites.

Leeds struggled severely in defence last season, having conceded 64 goals in 46 games, and a player of Huth’s reputation and experience could help alleviate those defensive woes.

At the age of 33, Huth has amassed considerable experience. The German centre-half is a three-time Premier League winner, and he even attained 19 international caps during his career.  He was an indispensable part of the famous Leicester side that unexpectedly won the title in 2015/16 season, and his knowledge and insight could be of exceeding use to Leeds.

The former Chelsea centre-back is regarded for his tendency to dominate aerial duels and his razor-sharp concentration. Accordingly, he is a menace when attacking set-pieces and he’s dominant when defending his penalty area. Unlike contemporary defenders, Huth is cut from a traditional mould, and he isn’t afraid to clear his lines when necessary. He is admired for his cautious and measured approach to defending.

It has been widely reported that Leeds United are searching for defensive reinforcements, and while Huth may not offer longevity, his expertise and fountain of knowledge would significantly improve the quality of the Leeds defence.  Accordingly, the Whites should challenge Boro for his signature.
