Bild are reporting that Hamburg will let Pierre-Michel Lasogga leave in the summer for just ?2.5m (£2.2m) if they are relegated from the Bundesliga.

The German side are seven points off safety with nine games to go so it is likely he will be offloaded, especially considering the wages he is reportedly on.

Reports suggest we may have some competition from Premier League clubs for the striker, but considering he has spent the season on loan with us, we are arguably favourites to sign him permanently.

It is a bit frustrating that we didn`t have a purchase option in our loan deal, but considering that fee may have been a lot higher last summer, I think in hindsight it was the right decision. After scoring ten goals from 18 starts for us, the club should be doing all they can to snap him up for a relatively modest price.

The 26 year old`s stay at Leeds has been punctuated by some good, but also some very poor moments. He was not the only one to play badly against Newport back in January, but the shocking defeat left a bitter taste in the mouth, with many of our fringe players failing to perform, along with some of our poor summer acquisitions.

At the time the German was labelled as among those who had failed to perform after being signed at the start of the season, but there was the mitigating factor that he had not started a match since his thigh injury.

Also you have to consider that no matter who came in after Chris Wood, they were always going to struggle to emulate the 30 goals the New Zealander scored for us last campaign.

However, once he was reintroduced to the starting eleven in late January, things began to look up for our no.9. With five goals in his last eight games, the forward is showing he was one of the rare summer recruits by Orta that have worked out.

Lasogga has some very good attributes. He can hold up the ball, and is a good target man, but when he is isolated, he finds it hard to get into the game. Still, if he is indeed available for such a low amount, and Heckingbottom is interested in keeping at the club, he could prove an astute signing. He still has at least four to five years at the top of his game, and if he can stay injury free, there is no doubt he could hit 20 goals next season. On that basis, signing him in the summer is a no-brainer.
