Leeds should expect summer transfer battle as interest in youngster intensifies – report

|

Leeds United have already fended away interest from numerous Premier League sides for the services of Jack Clarke, but it is now being reported by the Express that Liverpool have entered the race, which could lead to an intense battle for the youngster’s signature this summer.

There was ever growing speculation in the January window that a Premier League side could snatch the United sensation, as the teenage rising-star continued to impress with every chance Marcelo Bielsa offered.

The £3million offered by Crystal Palace and the £5m from Southampton was not enough, though, and the 18-year-old remained at Elland Road when the winter market slammed shut.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur also presented their interest, but it is the Express understanding that Jurgen Klopp is keen to add Clarke to his roster on Merseyside, no matter the outcome of the Whites’ attempt at earning promotion.

The German has sent scouts to oversee Clarke’s development at Elland Road since earning his breakthrough this season, and has been impressed by what he has heard.

Altogether, the wide midfielder has recorded 17 appearances this season in all competitions, scoring twice and assisting a further two.

It was also reported in January by the Daily Mail, however, that Clarke has no intentions of leaving his childhood side. But with his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2020, Leeds will have to make a decision this year.
