Leeds United may be set to lose Rui Marques as the Angolan makes his nations preliminary African Nations Cup Squad.

The former Stuttgart and Maritimo defender has been ever present in the United back four so far in the league, and now it appears that his performances have not gone unnoticed as Angolan coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves recalls Rui to the national team for the first time in 18 months.

Angola are set to travel to Portugal on Boxing Day to begin their preparations where a final squad will be selected for the 26th African Cup of Nations tournament which is being held in Ghana, starting late January. Next months tournament sees them face a very tough group of Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia. Angola qualified for the last World Cup in 2006, the trip to Germany being the nations first appearance in the World Cup Finals.

With defenders a premium at Elland Road, the move may force Dennis Wise into entering the transfer window for a defender however it may offer opportunity to 20-year-old former Newcastle United defender Paul Huntington. The summer signing has featured just 6 times in a Leeds United shirt with 4 appearances coming from the substitute’s bench.
