Leeds Set for Star Striker Signing?

Boss Gary Mac hopes that former Barcelona forward Luciano Becchio will sign for Leeds United this week.

The Argentinean striker is currently contracted to Spanish lower league side Merida, who didn’t give the club permission to play the 24-year-old in Leeds’ dire 0-0 draw with Darlington, however Becchio was spotted in the stands and seems somewhat content to potentially ply his trade at Elland Road next season.

McAllister told leedsunited.com:

‘It’s something we’re looking at and we’re talking about.’

‘There’s some loose ends to tie up, but we’re hoping we may be able to tie something up later in the week.’

Vital Leeds says: One hopes that after the early promise, the idea of signing a ‘former x trialist/reserve/junior’ player doesn’t come back to bite us in the rear end once more. I genuinely fear that Becchio, despite his good start, could potentially turn into another Sorsa or worse still, Da Costa.

At least however this Argentine actually exists, unlike the previous trialists under the Bates/Wise era, and, a further positive, he can’t be any worse than Tresor Kandol!

Can he?
