MyFootballClub, the website set up with a view to purchase a football club has succeeded in it’s aims by agreeing in principle to take over Ebbsfleet United.

The concept was to persuade football fans to part with £35 of their hard earned cash in order to share the chance to own a football club, and vote on a number of different aspects surrounding the business, including team selection!

Ever since the crazy idea was announced, there has been a long running vote on just which club that the membership should be taking an interest in. Leeds United had been the #1 target for MyFootballClub, however since the announcement that Ebbsfleet had agreed to the takeover they have since pushed The Whites into the #2 spot. Manchester United, were number 10.

The idea in which members of a website decide the team selections for matches is somewhat of an interesting one; however doubters of the concept have already voiced their concerns.

Birmingham City co-owner David Gold has already told of his scepticism: ‘A manager ceases to be a manager if he can’t pick the team,’ he told BBC Online.

‘If the fans vote on who plays in each position the manager might as well just be the trainer. If you don’t pick the players, you’re not the manager.

‘I think a manager would find it frustrating if the fans made a couple of changes and the team lost.’

Uncle Ken suddenly doesn’t seem quite so bad after all.
