Leeds reported transfer target gets seal of approval from former Premier League man – Report

|

He’s got his seal of approval, but there’s still something that doesn’t sit right.

According to reports in The Mirror, Leeds United are one of a number of clubs that are set to battle it out for Liverpool’s young forward Rhian Brewster in the January transfer window, and Darren Bent believes that he would be the “perfect” signing for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Premier league forward said that not only could he bring them some benefits this season, but was also looking much further in the future:

“Yeah, it would be, especially if Nketiah looks like he’s going to go. If Leeds can get a loan in January, he does well until the end of the season, Leeds get promoted and then they get him for a season-long loan, that would soften the blow. I like Brewster, he’s a very good attacker.”

The only problem that comes with comments like this, is whether or not he’ll be given the chance to shine to make him that “perfect” signing.

As I’ve spoken about before, given Eddie Nketiah’s struggles to get minutes in the first team so far this campaign, is there really any hope that someone like Brewster would get as many, if not more chances to make an impact as Nketiah has. Especially if Patrick Bamford can carry on the sort of run of form that he is on at the moment.

And even looking ahead to next season, the way that Bent talks about Leeds bringing him in on another loan if they reach the Premier League. If they were promoted, would Leeds really be willing to take the risk of giving such a young player so many minutes when they could be fighting a relegation battle? And if not, wouldn’t that just lead to the same problems going round and round in circles?

That’s why I think it’s such a risk to be bringing in such a young player and putting a lot of burden on his shoulders to help achieve your targets.

Would you take Brewster on loan in January?

Yes, absolutely

No, he isn't good enough

No, just play Nketiah more

No, he wouldn't play

If given the choice, I’d rather a club bring in an experienced head who has been there and done that, rather than someone who’ll be going through it all for the first time.
