Leeds: Relegation and Embarrassment

With 10 minutes to go of Leeds` penultimate chapter of their great escape story, [player name] rose to score an equaliser that, if not responded to was likely to seal the clubs relegation to the Football League 2 courtesy of Hull City playing out the last few minutes of their victory, a single blow of the whistle from the referee brought chaos at Elland Road.

A section of fans entered the playing area with 4 minutes to go, seemingly intent on making their way across to where the Ipswich fans were, luckily the police were switched on, forming a line between the two sets of supporters. It`s been reported (albeit from unofficial sources) that a number of fearful Ipswich fans then left the ground, the players and officials made for the safety of the dressing rooms.

Despite repeated tannoy announcements from the club, pointing out to those mindless idiots on the pitch that the final minute of the game was to be played as soon as they got off the pitch; it took 30 minutes for order to be restored. Those not involved in the utterly pointless, and reckless pitch invasion made their thoughts heard with chants of “you`re the scum of Elland Road.”

I would like to add my support to those turning on the so called supporters. Had they stopped to contemplate the fact that relegation will cause a drop in revenue, an investigation and more than likely a heavy fine will cripple the club even further. An added worry would be a possible albeit unlikely points deduction. Those fans on the pitch yesterday will be the same fans at the first game of next season shouting and swearing at the FA, should we start League One on -3 points.

As I mentioned, “scum” is too polite a word for those that ruined the last home game of the season. Credit must go to the players who came back out after the final whistle, to applaud those Leeds fans who did stick by them until the very end.
