Leeds open to cashing in on 5 ft 6 ace entering the final year of his contract – report

Leeds are ready to part ways with academy product Lewie Coyle this summer, according to Football Insider.

Coyle has spent the past two seasons on loan in League One with Fleetwood Town, where he earned the Trawlermen’s Player of the Year award in his maiden campaign and remained a regular of the starting XI following the appointment of Joey Barton.

Under the former Newcastle and Manchester City midfielder, the young right-back made 45 appearances across all competitions, and was accredited with four assists during his 3,961 minutes of action.

Coyle’s minutes were not solely in his preferred position, either, with Barton spreading his usage across the backline and even in central midfield on five occasions.

His efforts have failed to convince those in West Yorkshire that he has a future with the Whites, though, and we will instead look to move the 23-year-old on in the coming weeks.

It is suggested the club feel this is the final chance we have to earn a significant fee for Coyle, as he has now established his worth in the third-tier but is soon entering the final year of his contract at Elland Road.

Football Insider do not suggest how significant that valuation will be, but TransferMarkt consider the 5 ft 6 Hull-born defender a £225,000 talent.

What Football Insider do claim, however, is that Fleetwood Town are likely going to be keen on taking Coyle back to Highbury on a permanent deal.
