Earlier this afternoon Leeds United’s Under 23 side took to the pitch to face Burnley.

It was a very strong lineup selected by Carlos Corberan and we were looking to bounce back from last week’s Premier League Cup defeat to Newcastle United and it’s fair to say we did that in some style, taking a 6-3 victory to end the hosts unbeaten eight-game run.

With familiar names such as Will Huffer and Conor Shaughnessy in the squad, there were also starts for Lewis Baker, Izzy Brown, Jack Harrison and a first appearance since September for Patrick Bamford as he continues his own recovery from injury.

Aapo Halme and Jack Clarke were also on the bench and the victory puts us top of the table as going into the game both sides were tied on points in top spot.

We went into the break losing 2-1, but Bamford had got on the scoresheet for us. Second half the game exploded into life and substitute Clarke had an almost immediate impact to level the scores in the 50th minute.

Burnley retook the lead, but Bamford teed up Baker to level once again in the 53rd minute.

That was the end of the scoring from the hosts in Lancashire, but Brown made it 4-3 just after the hour mark. With 19 minutes remaining it was 5-3 as Clarke set up Bamford for his brace and the former Middlesbrough man was again thanking Clarke as he completed his hattrick.

Not a bad runout from Bamford.
