Leeds lining up move for Bayern Munich midfielder

|

As reported by The Athletic and Phil Hay a short while ago Leeds have turned their attention to Bayern midfielder Marc Roca.

It is no secret the whites are short on numbers in the midfield area and have desperately needed cover for Kalvin Phillips.  Long term injuries to Adam Forshaw, Jamie Shackleton and Stuart Dallas have left them thin on numbers recently.

Robin Koch, Pascal Struijk and Mateusz Klich have all played the central defensive midfield role, and while Koch and Struijk have stepped up when needed, it is not their preferred position.  Klich is more of a forward thinking midfielder not really recognised for his defensive capabilities.

The move for Roca will have mixed opinions as the 25 year old has not played many minutes for Bayern, but it is also wise to remember, he has some world class players in front of him in the pecking order.  He also has International experience at under 19 and 21 levels, winning the 2019 European under 21 championships with Spain.

He was one of the standout players whilst at Espanyol amassing over one hundred appearances, catching the eye of Bayern and subsequently signing for them in October 2020.  This could well be Leeds third signing since the end of the season, and the second in a space of a few days.  Showing real intent to improve the squad and give them the best chance possible to make a move up the Premier League table.

This seems like a very sensible deal for both parties, Leeds would bolster their midfield options and Roca will be looking to get some consistent game time and hopefully put him in the window for the upcoming World Cup selections.
