Leeds United legend Eddie Gray believes the team`s comeback from 2-0 down against Bristol City will only be meaningful if the club begin to pick up more points at home between now and May.
Speaking to the club`s official website after the game yesterday, the former player and manager said that the only way this team will make the play-offs this campaign is if they stop dropping points at Elland Road:
‘If you’re going to be in the top six, you’ve got to be winning your home games. That’s something that Paul will be trying to emphasise to his players. We cannot afford to drop any more points at home – if we’re going to be in top six.”
Looking at our home and away record this season, Gray`s view can`t really disputed really. We have collected just one more point (23) at home than away (22) this season so far.
Six wins, five draws and five defeats is undeniably mid-table form, and even if we had turned just a few of those defeats into victories, we would be above the Robins in the table at the moment.
Our performances in general either home or away in 2018 have been pretty lamentable, with ten goals conceded in our last three matches playing in front of our own fans.
However, we should be hopeful following the second half comeback yesterday. Hecks is still waiting for his first victory, but there are signs that that we could see our first win since December when we make the trip to Pride Park to face Derby midweek.
The Whites nearly snatched victory when we hit the bar in the dying minutes of the Bristol City match, and we need to carry that positive approach into our game on Wednesday. Gary Rowett`s side are coming off the back of a 2-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday – their first loss since November – so hopefully we can inflict another defeat on them to boost our own play-off hopes.
