Leeds United and Aston Villa shared the points at Elland Road on Friday night in a 1-1 draw.

Leeds defender Pontus Jansson looked like he was going to head Leeds towards an important three points after his first half goal but they were denied the win when substitute Henri Lansbury equalised for the visitors with 19 minutes remaining.

Head coach Thomas Christiansen made just one change from the side that won at Barnsley last weekend with Ronaldo Vieira, who was suspended at Barnsley, replacing Eunan O`Kane in midfield, with the Republic of Ireland international failing to recover in time from the injury that forced him off last weekend.

Leeds worked hard in the first half, as they took the game to Aston Villa without creating many clear-cut chances.

Jansson opened the scoring on 19 minutes when he used his strength to outmuscle Christopher Samba and head home a Pablo Hernandez corner.

Kalvin Phillips and Hernandez were both wasteful with first half chances whilst Aston Villa rarely tested Felix Wiedwald in the Leeds goal as he saved easily from Albert Adomah and Robert Snodgrass.

Glen Whelan wasted the visitor`s best chance but his tame effort went wide of the goal after he was found in space on the edge of the area.

Leeds were dealt an injury blow just before half time when the creative Hernandez was forced off with an injury.

In the second half, Aston Villa were enjoying more of the ball and Adomah had a great chance to equalise when he got in behind the Leeds defence after Luke Ayling had mistimed his attempted clearance but Wiedwald did well to deny the inform winger.

Leeds had chances to increase their lead. Liam Cooper headed home only for his effort to be ruled out for offside and Ezgjan Alioski, Caleb Ekuban and Kemar Roofe all somehow managed to miss a tantalising cross from Samu Saiz.

Aston Villa boss made a double substitution on 65 minutes as they looked for a way to break through the Leeds defence, with Jack Grealish and Lansbury both coming on and it was the latter who equalised for Villa just six minutes after his introduction.

Lansbury was found in space on the edge of the area and his low shot beat Wiedwald as the ball went in off the inside of the post.

Neither side could find a winner in the game as they had to settle for a share of the points.
