According to Football Insider, Leeds United had to reject a late approach for key defender Luke Ayling yesterday in the frenzy that was Deadline Day.

For us, of course, it was a pretty quiet final day of the permanent market and it remains to be seen if we boost our squad with a few loan signings.

However, things could have potentially kicked off in the unlikely event we actually agreed to letting our right-back go to the Baggies.

I can see why they wanted the 26-year-old, too, as he is obviously one of the best in the league but they’d surely have only got him if they’d offered massive money.

Our squad is small enough as it is, so letting him go right at the end of the market would have been pretty risky to say the least.

He’s staying put, though, and now we can look forward to him excelling in his role under Marcelo Bielsa.
