Leeds face tough decision as interest grows in Whites’ £2.7m-rated ace – report

Leeds executives face a tough decision over the Elland Road future of Kiko Casilla, as Marca understand Sevilla would be interested in signing the Spanish goalkeeper.

The La Liga outfit had targeted Casilla last summer while the 6 ft 2 shot-stopper remained on the books of Real Madrid, as the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium natives needed reinforcements between the sticks following David Soria and Sergio Rico’s departures.

Rico has since returned to Los Hispalenses following his season on loan with Fulham, but is thought to be pushing for a permanent way out of the Andalusia capital, and so are the club, who see Casilla as a potential replacement.

Sevilla Sporting Director Monchi is believed to have requested reports on Casilla’s situation in West Yorkshire, as he is intent on recruiting a low-cost goalkeeper who is experienced in La Liga but would be open to a deputy role behind Czech Republic international Tomas Vaclik.

Casilla was a frequent exclusion from Real Madrid’s teamsheets during his second stint with the Champions League heavyweight, with the £2.7million-rated ace making just 43 appearances across his three-and-a-half seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The one-time Spain international has returned to regular football with Leeds after edging out Whites product Bailey Peacock-Farrell, and still has four years to run on the lucrative contract in the region of £30k to £40,000-a-week penned in January.

Leeds were understood to be open to his departure earlier in the summer though, but are now believed to have performed a U-turn and placed their backing behind the 32-year-old.

The Whites board now face a difficult decision over whether they perform another and sell Casilla to Sevilla.
