Following Leeds United’s 1-1 draw against York City at Bootham Crescent on Thursday evening, some fans identified one player in particular as a clear Man of the Match following the tie.
Mateusz Klich certainly won himself some admirers following his performance in the game, and it was quite a turnaround for the Polish international player as he had a difficult start to life at Elland Road.
The 28-year-old came to the club for an undisclosed fee from FC Twente back in the summer of 2017, but he made only six starting appearances for us last season. Four of those showings came in the League Cup competition and with a Championship debut, he only featured three more times as a substitute.
He spent the second half of last the campaign out on loan with FC Utrecht, making a total of 16 appearances, with one goal returned and many would’ve thought he was a shoe-in to be one of our departures this summer.
On the back of the York game it appears the player may have earned himself a second chance, at least with some fans.
Klich and Baker looked good. Pearce and Clarke linked well. Wanted more aggression from Clarke though. Ideguchi tried but is not a winger. First game for these lads though so means nothing really

Klich comfortably the best player on the park tonight.

Thing is pall these games should be a way of our first team getting to gel not things like playing a 5'6 midfielder at cb, this is why signings needed to be made weeks ago

Best for me De Bock Klich Baker Clarke Pearce, thought Shackleton was up and down and Ideguchi quiet

Klich could be a great addition in the main squad.

Klich MOTM for us imo. Ideguchi had a decent game, faded a bit in the second half. Dalby, Pearce & Baker all decent too – Baker & Klich in the middle works well – really need another centre-back and a target man #lufc

Agree with all that & would add Dalby to the list of those who did OK – mind you, with LUTV coverage I might have been looking at the wrong players????. Never understood why Klich was disguarded so quickly – maybe thought too similar to O’Kane at the time….

Klich deserves a proper chance this pre season

Klich looked decent. Dalby useful as well as Jack Clarke and Diaz who looks like he can play out of defence #lufc

Thought baker had good moments but lots of loose passing

Klich is an absolute baller, better get a chance! Some one to one defence coaching and could fill that deep lying midfield/3rd CB roll perfectly. #lufc
