Leeds United midfielder Shaun Derry has admitted that he is glad to be reaching the end of his recovery from a lengthy injury that saw him play just one game so far for the club in 2007.

The vice-captain picked up a heel injury that has kept him out of action for the last 6 months, and following two operations has now finally had the cast removed in time hopefully to join up with the rest of the squad for a spot of pre-season training, though the player is remaining realistic about his recovery:

“I’ll follow what the specialist tells me,’ he explained. ‘I’m not setting any targets because that only breeds disappointment if you don’t reach them” Derry told the official website.

“I’m going to get my body right and come back stronger than ever before?

“?I’ve seen players rush back and pick up something else. I don’t want to make that mistake. I want to make sure I’m fit, strong and the player I can be.’
