Leeds United continued their poor run as they lost 4-1 to Cardiff City in another game where they were reduced to ten-men during the first half.

Goals from Callum Paterson, Junior Hoilett, Sean Morrison and Anthony Pilkington inflicted another home defeat for Leeds as they conceded four at home for the second game in a row.

Gaetano Berardi also saw red in the first half for Leeds for a second bookable offence, as he became the fourth player to be sent off for Leeds in just six games for Leeds in 2018 and the third to be dismissed in the first half.

Paterson put the visitors ahead on 9 minutes when Leeds failed to clear a corner and Paterson outmuscled Pontus Jansson at the back post to head home.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga came close to levelling for Leeds when his long range effort was tipped onto the post by Neil Etheridge.

Lasogga then missed a guilt-edged chance to equalise for Leeds when he somehow headed against the crossbar with the goal at his mercy and then Ezgjan Alioski failed to finish the rebound with goal once again at his mercy.

Things started to go from bad to worse for Leeds on the half hour when defender Jansson was stretchered off and with Leeds short of cover in the centre of defence, Berardi was forced to become a makeshift centre back for the second game in a row.

Cardiff doubled their lead four minutes before the break when Hoilett slid home at the far post after latching onto a Paterson shot.

The injury to Jansson meant a lengthy spell of added time in the first half and the half ended disastrously. Berardi picked up his second yellow card for a foul on Gary Madine and from the resulting free-kick, Morrison headed home.

Leeds were given a glimmer of hope nine minutes into the second half when former Leeds defender Sol Bamba directed the ball past his own keeper.

Cardiff looked the most likely to score again in the game and Paterson and Joe Ralls both went close for the visitors.

The bluebirds added a fourth in the final few minutes when Pilkington was found in space at the back post and he fired past Felix Wiedwald.
