Leeds United suffered another embarrassing FA Cup exit as they crashed to a defeat at League Two side Newport County.

Twelve-months after crashing out of the competition at non-league Sutton United, Leeds crashed to a 2-1 defeat having led for much of the game.

Gaetano Berardi scored his first goal for Leeds to spark wild celebrations but an own goal from Conor Shaughnessy with less than 15 minutes remaining set up a grandstand finish and a towering header from substitute Shawn McCoulsky in the final minute won the game for the South Wales club.

Leeds bad afternoon was compounded when Samu Saiz was sent off for an off the ball incident before the game restarted. The Spaniard was accused of spitting by Newport winger Robbie Willmott and he could serve a lengthy ban if found guilty by the FA who are sure to act on referee Mike Dean`s referees report.

Jay-Roy Grot should have given Leeds the lead inside ten seconds when he found space behind the Newport defence but he could only hit his shot straight at Joe Day.

Berardi then fired Leeds ahead inside ten minutes when his long-range effort swerved away from Day.

Newport caused problems for a nervous looking Leeds defence and only a goal line clearance from Mateusz Klich maintained Leeds lead in the first half.

In the second half, only a long-range shot from Pierre-Michel Lasogga worried the Newport goalkeeper whilst the home side created a number of chances with Joss Labadie and Padraig Amond going close.

Newport levelled fortuitously when Leeds defender Shaughnessy could only divert the ball into his own goal from a Frank Nouble cross.

The League Two side were buoyed after the goal and Armond and Paul Hayes both went close to putting them ahead.

With just a minute of normal time remaining, Newport scored the winner when McCoulsky towered above the Leeds defence to head home to spark more wild scenes at Rodney Parade.

Leeds sub Saiz was then sent off after allegedly spitting at Willmott and despite three minutes of added time, Leeds could not get back into the game to crash out of the competition.
