Leeds could sign talented 21 y/o on the cheap after latest update – report

Daniel James to Leeds United could be on in the summer, as Graham Potter has accepted that negotiations over a new deal are not going smoothly, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

James and Leeds were in a saga that never seemed to end in January, when we offered £1.5million to take the winger on loan but turn the deal into a permanent arrangement for a further £7m should we go up, but Swansea negated at the last minute.

The Swans’ decision could now backfire horrifically for them, as if no new contract is signed, they could be forced to accept offers below the £8.5m bid tabled by United last month or risk the winger walking away for nothing when his contract expires in 2020.

Accepting a lower offer seems the likely outcome at present, as Potter has now conceded that negotiations with James are yet to progress and he could leave for a Premier League side.

“The answer is yes,” said Potter when asked if Swansea hope to keep James. “But it’s not as simple as that, all parties have to agree. It’s a process. You have to make sure everybody’s happy.

“I would say certainly yes, if he was going to move anywhere [it would be for a top-flight side].”

Whites Chief Executive Angus Kinnear has also told BBC Leeds that the club remain interested in signing James and will not give up without another fight, per quotes by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
