Phil Hay has revealed that Jean Kevin Augustin could work his fitness up to a level where he features more in the season run-in than he might have, thanks to the current break in the campaign.

We should be heading into the final weeks of the campaign but it now looks as though there’s going to be a delay to the season finishing for sure.

And, that in mind, it gives some players who were injured or not fit a bit of extra time to potentially feature between now and the end of the campaign – whenever that ends up being.

Augustin is one that falls into that bracket, then, with little seen of him since his arrival in the January window and Phil Hay has revealed:

“Augustin trained towards the back end of last week and appears to be over his hamstring strain.

“How quickly he would have come back into the 18 is for Bielsa to know but this break is a chance for him to get properly up to speed.”

Should we keep Casilla?

It’s certainly good news for the Whites given the need for competition up top for current first-choice striker Patrick Bamford.

Plenty of fans have called for Augustin to feature more than he has but an injury threatened to cut down his potential game time.

He now seems to be over that and working to get back fit, so he could still prove an important part of what the club is trying to do come the end of the season.
