It was reported this week that Leeds United had apparently cooled their interest in Derby County striker Matej Vydra despite him appearing to be one of our top targets this summer.

The Yorkshire Evening Post suggested that the 26-year-old striker had apparently issued new wage demands as contract talks had progressed and with such a ‘dramatic’ rise, we are likely willing to walk away from the deal and look at alternative options.

Having reportedly first approached the Pride Park outfit for his services back in May, we were said to be happy to meet the £11million price tag and it was believed that we were also happy to pay in excess of £30,000 a week to secure Marcelo Bielsa highly rated target.

For Leeds fans, the news gets worse as they also reported that we had cooled our interest in former Hull City striker Abel Hernandez as well, owing to the financial package he was seeking as a free agent and our bid to loan Birmingham City goalkeeper David Stockdale has also fallen down as they only appear interested in a straight sale.

With solving the goalkeeper situation being one problem this summer, failing to follow up interest in former loanee Pierre-Michel Lasogga leaves us without a recognised specialist centre-forward.

When it comes to firepower going into the 2018/19 season we’re between a rock and a hard place and we don’t seem to have much room for real negotiation unless we can pull a couple of realistic targets out of nowhere.

One transfer failing just seems to span into another at the minute.
