Leeds close in on £3m transfer as agent visits Thorp Arch to thrash out deal – report

|

Leeds are closing in on our fourth transfer of the summer, as Football Insider understand Helder Costa’s agent has travelled to Thorp Arch to thrash out the winger’s loan move away from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

United announced the return of Jack Harrison for another season on Monday, with the Manchester City winger returning to Elland Road on loan again, but now with an option to buy.

Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Ben White joined the former England U21 international in putting pen to paper on a one-year deal, as well, while the club confirmed earlier on Tuesday (June 2) that Jack Clarke would see out another term in West Yorkshire on loan from new side Tottenham Hotspur.

Costa may now make it a quadruple announcments of loan signings, as Football Insider have been told by a source within Thorp Arch that the deal is on the verge of being completed after the 25-year-old bid his farewells to his Wolves teammates last week.

The Molineux outfit’s former club record £13million capture also cleared out his locker at the Black Country side’s training ground, while his representatives arrived at Thorp Arch to discuss the finer details of his temporary move to West Yorkshire.

Like Harrison, the deal for Costa is expected to include an option to turn his loan move into a permanent arrangement next season for an undisclosed fee, with United paying up to £3million for the privilege of taking the Benfica product for the year.

Elland Road chiefs are thought to have given the green light to a £2million base loan fee to sign the one-time Portugal international, while also taking on the cost of his wages, said to be around £20,000-a-week.

In addition, Wolves are said to have demanded add-on clauses in the agreement for Costa’s services, that will see United shell out additional funds next summer should we secure promotion in the 2019/20 Championship term. Costa, himself, will also be privy to lucrative performance-related bonuses, should his efforts in West Yorkshire help to secure a top-flight berth.

Confirmation of the 5 ft 8 winger’s move to Elland Road could be expected in the coming weeks, with it previously noted that Marcelo Bielsa would ideally like the Luanda, Angola-born ace signed before the first-team jet off to Australia for our pre-season tour.
