Leeds United suffered a fourth defeat in five Championship games as they went down to a 2-1 home defeat to Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield United.

Billy Sharp returned to his former club and he took less than 2 minutes to put the blades ahead.

Kalvin Phillips equalised for Leeds on 36 minutes but youngster David Brooks won the game for Sheffield United with nine minutes remaining, a win that sees them climb to the top of the Championship.

The visitors made the perfect start when Mark Duffy found Sharp unmarked at the back post and the striker made no mistake as he scored his sixth goal of the season.

The visitors were in total control of the first half hour as they worked hard to deny Leeds time on the ball and when in possession, they broke at pace. Leon Clarke poked just wide after a quick flowing move and Leeds owed a lot to goalkeeper Andy Lonergan, when his reflex save kept out another Sharp effort.

Leeds levelled with their first effort on goal when Phillips fired home from the edge of the area with a volley.

Lonergan then came to Leeds rescue just before the break when Sharp found space behind the Leeds defence at a quick free-kick.

The second half was much tighter but Leeds twice came close to taking the lead. Samu Saiz saw his effort from the edge of the area come back off a post and Ezgjan Alioski saw his weak header easily saved by Jamal Blackman.

Leon Clarke forced Lonergan into a save at his near post and the busy striker forced the Leeds keeper into another good save with less than ten minutes remaining.

Moments later, the visitors went ahead when a slide rule ball from Duffy found young substitute David Brooks and the striker slid the ball past Lonergan for his first Championship goal.

Leeds had no answer as they slipped to a second consecutive home defeat.
