According to The Mail on Sunday, Leeds United have approached Girondins de Bordeaux, previously a Ligue 1 side, to enquire about French under-21 international Sékou Mara, who plays as a striker.

Follwing reports of interest in Charles de Ketelaere and Arnaud Kalimuendo, Mara is the latest potential sriker to join the side after an injury-ridden season for Patrick Bamford, and it seems that the Leeds hierarchy are using the French side’s financial woes to their advantage in a potential deal.

Bordeaux finished last in the league in the 2021/22 season before being administratively relegated to the Championnat National, the French third division, due to financial difficulties. Therefore, many players will want to leave the club to play in a better league, and the club, deing in dire straits, will be more interested in deals that aren’t quite fitting to the player’s valuation in normal circumstances.

Bordeaux want 15 million euros, with add-ons and a significant sell-on clause, for the striker who scored six goals last year in 893 minutes, a goal roughly every 150 minutes, and has 6 goals in 10 caps for France under-20s.
