The wheels are back on the wagon as Leeds ended their mini-slump with a convincing 3-1 win over the Sky Blues.

Goals from Jonathon Douglas, Robbie Blake and Richard Cresswell beat the visitors, who had equalised early in the second half through Don Hutchison.

After three wins on the trot Coventry went into the match looking for something from the fixture. Gary McSheffrey started the game brightly but it was Michael Doyle who had the first chance, firing a left-foot volley wide from all of 35 yards.

On five minutes Dele Adebola’s powerful header from 12 yards struck Neil Sullivan’s post and seemed to give a wake up call to the Whites. In the sixth minute Robbie Blake’s cross was narrowly headed wide by Northern Ireland international David Healy.

On-loan Blackburn midfielder Douglas nearly put the Whites in front in the 12th minute with a close-range volley but his shot went just wide. But he did not have to wait long to score though and hit the opening goal in the 33rd minute. He struck a crisp volley past on-loan Spurs keeper Marton Fulop after Healy whipped in a cross from the left wing.

Coventry were inches away from levelling in first-half stoppage time when Andrew Whing’s volley from six yards crashed against the bar.

The Sky Blues started the second-half in the same fashion as they finished the first. Richard Duffy’s long-range strike thundered against the crossbar, providing further evidence that they were prepared to put up a fight.

Coventry’s lively start to the second half was rewarded in the 58th minute when Hutchison equalised with an outrageous 35-yard volley. It was the second goal Hutchison has scored at Elland Road this season after scoring for Milwall on the opening day.

But within two minutes the Whites had regained the lead when Blake fired into the roof of the net from six yards after Healy had crossed from the right wing.

Leeds wrapped up the game in the 80th minute when Cresswell drilled a left-foot shot past Fulop after a cross from the industrious Blake.

Coventry wasted a great opportunity to pull a goal back in the 82nd-minute when McSheffrey missed a penalty after Doyle had been brought down by Paul Butler.
