Leeds United bowed out of the Carling Cup at Elland Road as Manchester United strolled to victory.

Leeds had a good early opportunity when Tom Lees, Darren O`Dea and Ross McCormack all had chances cleared following a Robert Snodgrass corner but that was as good as it got for the home side.

Michael Owen opened the scoring on fifteen minutes when his left foot shot trickled into the corner of the net.

He doubled the lead just past the half hour when he gave Andy Lonergan no chance from the edge of the area.

Ryan Giggs finished the tie off as a contest in injury time at the end of the first half when he ghosted past Aidy White to fire in a third.

The second half was something of a non-contest with neither side creating any real goalscoring opportunities.
